This course is to give the seafarers the required education and training in fire fighting and operations on board tanker vessels (oil, chemical, or liquefied gas) to meet the knowledge, understanding and proficiency requirements set out in STCW Tables A-V/1-1-1 and A/V/1-2-1 for oil and chemical tankers and liquefied gas tanker cargo.

This one-day complete practical course demonstrates all on board equipment and fixed systems in dealing with a range of different fire types likely to occur on tankers.

NOTE : Delegates undergoing fire fighting training will be required to complete and sign a confidential medical declaration to make us aware of any health problems, disabilities or injuries that we may need to take into account whilst attending this physically demanding course.  It is therefore essential that delegates feel healthy and are physically fit to undertake such training.

HELM – Management Level

Human Element Leadership and Management – Management Level (HELM-M) – 5 Days

The course meets the latest mandatory requirements for approved training in the Human Element Leadership and Management at the management level and the standards of competence to be achieved.

This course is predominantly directed for technical officers as it follows an approved education and training programme which leads to MCA certification as:

  • Chief mate or master on ships of 500 gross tonnage or more
  • Second engineer officer or chief engineer officer on ships powered by main propulsion machinery of 750 kW propulsion power or more

It meets the mandatory requirements pertinent to bridge resource management, engineroom resource management and application of leadership and team skills as set out in Tables A-II/2, and A-III/2 of the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) incorporating the Manila amendments.

This training is a prerequisite for a management level Certificate of and III/2.Competency (CoC) issued by the MCA upon meeting the requirements of Regulation II/2

On completion students will be able to control the operation of the ship and will learn on how to care for persons on board at the management level through the use of leadership and managerial skills to ensure that the following:

  • Operations are planned and resources are allocated appropriately with the necessary priority being allocated
  • Communication is clearly and unambiguously given and received
  • Effective leadership behaviours are demonstrated
  • Necessary team member(s) share an accurate understanding of current and predicted vessel state and operational status and external environment
  • Decisions are most effective for the situation
  • Training objectives and activities are based on assessment of current competence and capabilities and operational requirements
  • Operations are demonstrated to be effective and in accordance with applicable rules
  • The crew are allocated duties and informed of expected standards of work and behaviour in a manner appropriate to the individuals concerned

Advanced Fire Fighting

Advanced Fire Fighting (AFF) – 4 Days

This course is mandatory for deck and engineering officers who want to qualify, or upgrade, for CoC, as well as maritime crew who are designated to control fire fighting operations.

It covers:

  • Fire fighting procedures at sea and in port, with particular emphasis on organisation
  • Tactics and effective command, including liaison with shore-based firefighters
  • It covers topics such as ventilation control, hazards involving dangerous goods and the effects of fire fighting water on ship stability
  • A variety of practical exercises and scenarios involving fighting fires of different types and intensity

NOTE : This is a physically demanding course and candidates undergoing fire fighting training will be required to complete and sign a confidential medical declaration, making us aware of any health problems, disabilities or injuries that they may have. It is vital that the candidates feel fit, healthy and able to undertake the course. Training centers may consider utilizing the UK ENG 1 Medical certificate, or equivalent, as an indicator of fitness.

PSC & RB

Proficiency in Survival craft and Rescue Boat (PSCRB) – 4 Days

This course will prepare each  crew for the safe launching and handling of survival craft through a series of practical exercises using a range of open and enclosed lifeboats and inflatable rescue boats to build confidence, competence and knowledge of safety procedures as per Section A-VI/2.

Take charge of a survival craft or rescue boat during and after launch

HELM- Operational Level

This course is designed to meet the mandatory requirements for approved training in the human element, leadership and management at the operational level as set out in Regulations A-II/1, A-III/1 and A-III/6 of the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watch keeping for Seafarers (STCW). It provides students with awareness and understanding of the key human factors influencing effective resource management. Students will acquire and develop tools and practical skills to enhance their maritime resource management capability. This training is a prerequisite for a first Certificate of Competency (CoC) issued by the MCA meeting the requirements of Regulation II/1, III/1 and III/6.

The course is designed to develop knowledge and skills to address the following:

  • Culture : how to recognise and respond to cultural issues including cultural awareness and bias including national, organisational, departmental and personal cultural approaches

ECDIS

Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems (ECDIS) – 5 Days

The aim of the course is to train bridge watchkeeping officers and other personnel in the safe and efficient use of ECDIS. The course meets the guidance of IMO Model Course 1.27, the operational use of ECDIS, for generic ECDIS training.

Successful completion of this course will result in the issue of certification for generic ECDIS training (to IMO 1.27). The essential legal and theoretical background to the use and carriage of ECDIS are covered in sufficient detail to allow the student to use ECDIS correctly and safely.
